EDM Artist of the Week: Bixel Boys
After experiencing their fantastic set that closed Friday night at EDC Las Vegas, I knew that Bixel Boys had earned our honorary title of Artist of the Week.
Their high energy set kept all the tired fans dancing, even though they had the latest set time of 4:30 a.m. Their track selection was strategically planned for this occasion; they chose catchy tunes that still intrigued the fans that had already heard a dozen other artists that night. It was one of the best sets at EDC that truly lifted up the crowd at sunrise.
The group consists of Rob May and Ian Macpherson, two Los Angeles natives who “make underground tunes for big rooms”. Their sound can be unpredictable, but their vibe reminds me of the quirky house music coming out in 2007 a la Boys Noize, Justice, and MSTRKRFT (definitely a good thing), with some obvious modern influence.
They played at Exchange L.A. on July 5 to mark the release of their new Empire EP. Next, they’ll be touring in Australia (no big deal), and finally back to the states July 25 in San Francisco and July 26 in San Diego.
Be sure to check out one of the shows – they are one of the hottest new groups out there!
